Kansas City Board Of Trade Annual Volume Traded In 2003 Second Largest Ever

Kansas City Board of Trade annual volume traded in 2003 was the second largest ever for wheat futures, wheat options and for the exchange as a whole.

Total exchange volume for 2003 amounted to 3,099,805 contracts. This marks the second time in a row that annual volume has exceeded 3 million contracts. The total comes in second place in the exchange's history, behind only last year's exchange record of 3,326,836 contracts.

Wheat futures annual volume traded in 2003 also was the second largest in exchange history. A total of 2,632,033 contracts were traded, falling only 3.9 percent shy of the previous record of 2,738,536 contracts set last year.

The wheat options contract was also second only to last year. A total of 465,381 contracts were traded in 2003, off 18.5 percent from the previous year. However, last year's record of 570,823 contracts traded was more than double the previous year's record of 243,311 contracts.

The Kansas City Board of Trade, chartered in 1876, is the world's largest futures market for hard red winter wheat.
