Date 08/01/2004

The board of directors of the Kansas City Board of Trade at the December 16 board meeting declared a dividend for 2004 for all full members (Class "AA" Members) of record as of Nov. 25, 2003. A dividend of $5,000 per member will be paid in January 2004.

KCBT Chairman John P. Crowe said this is the sixth year in a row the exchange has paid a dividend, making it unique among U.S. exchanges. He said it has been a good year for the exchange. Crowe noted that the exchange closed the year with its second-highest trading volume ever. Total exchange volume for 2003 amounted to 3,099,805 contracts which is second only to the record set the previous year, 2002.

Crowe also noted that exchange seat prices set an all time high in August 2003 at $95,000. The average seat price for the year was $78,500, up from $69,375 in 2002.

The KCBT is a for-profit corporation organized under the laws of Delaware. The exchange, chartered in 1876, is the world's largest futures market for hard red winter wheat.
