Kansas City Board Of Trade 2001 Exchange Volume Second-Largest Ever

Date 02/01/2002

The year 2001 was the second-largest ever in the history of the Kansas City Board of Trade in terms of the volume of contracts traded. Total exchange volume at the Kansas City Board of Trade fell just short of last year's record of 2,664,669 contracts by only 46,180 contracts, which was a decrease of 1.7 percent.

The decrease in volume can be traced to the exchange being closed in response to the September 11 terrorist attacks and the resulting decrease in trading activity which was felt throughout the majority of the year's remainder. Prior to September 11, exchange volume was ahead for the year.

The wheat options contract, however, set a new annual volume record of 243,311 contracts, which was an 11.6 percent increase over last year's record of 218,052 contracts.

The wheat futures contract fell 70,946 contracts short of last year's record of 2,427,950 contracts, a decrease of 2.9 percent. Value Line, futures volume, at 17,773 contracts, exceeded last year's volume by 28.4 percent or 3,928 contracts.
