July 2003 - Euronext Key Indicators - Transactions In Cash Products Up 10% Year-To-Date - Euronext.Liffe Interest Rate Products Up 56% Year-To-Date

Cash products

Euronext's cash markets registered more than 86 million transactions between January and July 2003, an increase of close to 10% compared to the same period in 2002. The average number of transactions traded daily in July on Euronext's central order book was 523,000, with a total number of 12 million during the month. The number of transactions in July 2003 is somewhat down on July 2002 when significant financial events drove the markets to particularly high levels of activity and hypervolatility. Nevertheless, transactions in the year-to-date have increased significantly.

Shares

The growth in share trading since January is up by almost 11% compared to the same period last year: a total of almost 82 million transactions have been made, or an average of 553,000 daily.

Trackers

The number of transactions in trackers also increased over the first seven months of the year: 51% higher in comparison with the same period in 2002. Almost 280,000 transactions have been registered since January on these products.

Derivatives products

Euronext.liffe, the international derivatives business of Euronext, traded 55.5 million futures and options contracts in July 2003, with an average daily volume of 2.4 million contracts.

Year-to-date, Euronext.liffe has traded 408.3 million contracts with an average daily volume of 2.7 million.

Volumes on interest-rate products were up 56% year-to-date and 30% year-on-year, with 23 million contracts traded in July. In this sector, short-term interest rate products (the Euribor, Short Sterling and Euroswiss contracts) grew by 60%.

In equity products, over 32 million contracts were traded, comprising 18.5 million contracts in individual equity products and 13 million in equity index derivatives. The Amsterdam equity derivatives market continues to grow strongly, up 21% against the same time last year.

Volume in Universal Stock Futures, which in June had already surpassed the record number of contracts traded last year as a whole, posted an increase of 103% year-to-date.

Commodity products were up 22% for the same time period.
