Transactions in shares grew by 13.1% year-to-date compared to the same period last year. In July 2002, shares trading reached 13,596,290 trades, up almost 30% on June 2002, and up 72% year-on-year. The Euronext electronic orderbook turnover in shares totalled €173.8 billion in July 2002, averaging a daily trading value of €7.5 billion, up 29% compared to July 2001.
In July Euronext maintained its position as the European leader for Trackers for the 4th consecutive month, with a market share of 47.6%. Indeed, turnover is still growing in July 2002, up 53.5% compared to June 2002, and up 111% year-to-date compared to the same period in 2001. The total turnover in Trackers increased by 2% in July compared to June, totalling €3.3 billion.
The Euronext 100 blue chip index was down by 12.9% in July, the Next 150 index was down 8.5% compared to June 2002.
As of 31 July 2002, the market capitalisation of the 1,528 companies listed on Euronext markets totalled €1,644 billion.
