The decision to created the joint-stock company “RTS Stock Exchange” was made by the RTS Stock Exchange Board of Directors at the end of 2003. The new exchange was created to form a new transparent, self-regulated entity that will provide market participants with required services and will be profit -oriented.
In July 2004 all professional market participants were offered 60% of the shares of the new company. 17 investment companies and banks became shareholders. In November 4 Internet-brokers and St.Petersburg Stock Exchange bought 2% of the offered shares each. As of October 2004 21 professional market participants, shareholders of the RTS Stock Exchange, provide 80% of total market turnover in Russia. 30% of shares of the JSC “RTS Stock Exchange” currently belong to the RTS Group.
RTS Stock Exchange serves as the Clearing center of the joint-stock company, “Depositary and Clearing Company' is the depositary, RTS Settlement Chamber is the settlement bank.
