The decision to create joint-stock company "RTS Stock Exchange" was made by the RTS Stock Exchange non-profit partnership Board of Directors at the end of 2003. The new company was created in response to market participants' demand for a transparent, self-regulating and profit-making exchange.
In July 2004 60% of the shares of the newly created company was offered to professional market participants. The demand for shares exceeded supply by 12%. As a result, 17 largest investment companies and banks became shareholders. In November 2004 the additional 10% were sold to 4 large investment companies and St. Petersburg Stock Exchange. The remaining 30% are now held by the non-profit partnership "RTS Stock Exchange". Within six months after beginning of trading, 15% of shares of the company will be distributed among market participants based on their trading activity.
In October 2004 companies-shareholders of the "RTS Stock Exchange" joint-stock company accounted to 80% of total trading volume on Russian securities market.
