João Freixa To Leave Euronext

João Freixa, member of the Managing Board of Euronext NV, with special responsibility for the Information Services business line and head of the management team at Euronext Lisbon, has accepted the offer made by the Portuguese government to join Caixa Geral de Depósitos1 as Vice-President.

Mr. Freixa will be leaving Euronext when he takes up his new position at Caixa Geral de Depósitos on 1 October 2004.

“The Portuguese government’s request that I serve as Vice-President of Caixa Geral de Depósitos is a great honour, and I am sorry to be leaving Euronext,” said Mr. Freixa. He added, “Euronext has enabled the Lisbon market to raise its profile worldwide, and I have greatly enjoyed working with a genuinely international team on projects for the future. Today the Euronext group has all the resources needed, thanks to its management and business model, to remain the premier pan-European market.”

“We are sorry to see João go, but we understand that the offer made to him by Caixa Geral de Depósitos is one that he could not refuse,” said Jean-François Théodore, CEO of Euronext. “With his knowledge of markets and his energetic management of Euronext Lisbon, João has made an significant contribution to Euronext. We wish him all the best in his new position.”

1 Caixa Geral de Depósitos (CGD) is owned by the Portuguese state and it is the largest banking group in Portugal. CGD leads a financial conglomerate which includes subsidiaries active in leasing, factoring, insurance and money management, as well as banks in Spain, France, Brazil, United States of America and South Africa.
