JonesTrading Institutional Services LLC, a leading agency brokerage, which provides institutions and hedge funds with unconflicted block trading in securities, announced today that it has recruited industry veteran Marcus Martin to expand and head its global business. Mr. Martin has been named Managing Director and Head of International and GEM-ex Trading, and reports to Chairman and CEO Packy Jones as well as to the firm’s Executive Committee.
The move into building a global franchise based on JonesTrading’s relationship model is a new initiative, reflecting the latest in a series of strategic moves designed to expand the opportunities for JonesTrading’s clients to access liquidity and execute in blocks. It is in response to market and competitive conditions where larger banks have fragmented cross-border liquidity and charge a premium for trading against capital in global equities as well as in response demand by smaller firms for access to global markets.
JonesTrading will offer trading in markets worldwide, which will expand global access, on behalf of JonesTrading clients, into: Pan-Latin America; Pan-Europe; Middle East; Asia; Africa; and across developed and emerging markets. Trading will be truly cross border. Of particular importance, JonesTrading will facilitate and execute on behalf of US managers seeking access in non-US markets as well as reciprocal inbound order flow from non-US asset managers into US institutions and markets.
Mr. Martin brings over a decade of global experience and expertise in building global businesses to the role. Most recently, he was head of US Institutional Execution and Risk for Pan-European Global Markets at UniCredit Corporate and Investment Bank. Prior to UniCredit he ran US Execution at Troika Dialog Investment Bank where he expanded market and product access. At Lehman Brothers he served as SVP, Head of Cash and Derivative Sales Trading across CEEMEA; and at Merrill Lynch he was Head of EMEA Hedge Fund Sales Trading and was an Emerging Markets Sales Trader.
Said Packy Jones, JonesTrading's Chairman: "During these difficult times in the financial markets, traders are increasingly relying on relationship-based trading. We have been committed to providing our institutional and hedge fund clients the ability to increase performance by accessing and executing blocks. As traders continue to seek opportunities, it is clear that access to global markets is increasingly demanded. Marcus Martin brings relationships, management skills, and trading expertise in global markets to our clients. We are confident that with Marcus and through the continued confidence that our clients place in JonesTrading we will rapidly build a global presence.”
Said Marcus Martin, Managing Director, JonesTrading: "The JonesTrading client-only model enables execution in size without any conflict of capital or proprietary interests, which is particularly challenging in the emerging markets considering the severe liquidity and market access constraints. This ‘high touch’ client approach allows JonesTrading to provide market insight to its clients as they seek the most advantageous conditions for a trade. Through our extensive network of international local relationships, we aim to provide JonesTrading clients with unique market and trade applications that follow the daily 24 hour international storyline. This capability is critical in global (and especially emerging markets) where timing, relationships, and credible information flow are factors that greatly influence trading outcomes. We look forward to bringing clients the benefits of trading globally through such a reputable and successful firm as JonesTrading.”
