João Freixa To head Euronext Lisbon And Join Euronext NV's Managing Board

Following Mr. Manuel Alves Monteiro's resignation, Mr. João Freixa has been nominated by Euronext NV and the Board of Directors of Euronext Lisbon as CEO of Euronext's Portuguese subsidiary, Euronext Lisbon. This appointment is subject to regulatory approval of the Portuguese regulator, CMVM.

The Supervisory Board of Euronext NV intends to appoint Mr. Freixa as member of the Managing Board of Euronext NV as well. Euronext's shareholders meeting will be notified about this intended appointment in its meeting of 22 May 2003. The Dutch Works Council will be given the opportunity to render its advice with respect to the intended appointment and Euronext's European Works Council will be informed accordingly. Mr. Freixa's nomination as member of the Managing Board of Euronext NV is also subject to regulatory approvals.

João Eduardo Moura da Silva Freixa, 46, is a key figure of finance in Portugal and has a great deal of experience in corporate finance as well as in retail and private banking, asset management, brokerage and life insurance. Since 1985, he's been working at Barclays Bank Plc-Portugal, and has been running all the activities of the group in Portugal since 1997 as Country Manager and CEO.

He has also been an active member of the board of the Portuguese Banking Association since 2000, and has formerly been a member of the executive of Barclays' European Retail Banking Group in London.

Mr. Freixa holds a Master of Business Administration by " Universidade Nova de Lisboa " (1981).

João Freixa is married and has two daughters ; he is involved in a number of organizations concerned with the welfare of disadvantaged children.
