The Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA) today announced the hiring of Jennifer (Mundy) Flitton as managing director of federal government affairs. Ms. Flitton joins SIFMA's public policy and advocacy team from the office of Congressman Patrick McHenry where she served as the deputy chief of staff for almost nine years.
"We are thrilled to welcome Jen to our team," said Andy Blocker, SIFMA executive vice president of public policy and advocacy. "She brings over 15 years of Capitol Hill experience that will be a welcomed addition to SIFMA's policy and advocacy efforts to promote capital formation, strengthen our industry, create jobs, and advance opportunities for Main Street investors. While Jen will contribute to all policy issues impacting our members, she will pay particular attention to tax and issues impacting wealth management and asset management firms."
"Jen has been a trusted, loyal advisor to me for the past eight years, directing my policy shop," said Congressman Patrick McHenry. "She not only has substantive depth of the issues facing the financial services industry, she understands how things work on the Hill and has great relationships with staff and members. While I'll miss her advice and counsel, I know she'll do great things in this next phase of her life."
Ms. Flitton joins SIFMA after having served a dual role as deputy chief of staff to Congressman McHenry, as well as his designee on the House Financial Services Committee where the Congressman serves as the vice chairman. Ms. Flitton served the past two years on the staff of the Financial Services Committee's Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee. In that position, Ms. Flitton provided counsel to Congressman McHenry in his previous role as the chairman of the subcommittee.
Prior to joining Congressman McHenry's staff, Ms. Flitton served Congressman Mike Oxley for seven years as a legislative assistant. Ms. Flitton earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Ashland University and her Master of Public Policy from George Mason University.
Ms. Flitton will officially begin her new role on February 23, 2015.
