The U.S. blue-chip Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 880.93 points in January, closing at 12,383.89. Stock market indexes in Europe, Asia and globally were down in January, according to preliminary monthly figures from global index providers, Dow Jones Indexes and STOXX Ltd.

  • In the U.S., the Dow Jones Financials sector index posted the narrowest loss, in January, falling 3.30%. The Dow Jones Technology sector index posted the biggest loss, dropping 13.78%.
  • In Europe, the Dow Jones STOXX 600 Health Care sector index posted the narrowest loss, falling 6.92%. The Dow Jones STOXX Industrial Goods & Services sector index posted the biggest loss, dropping 15.25%.
  • In Asia, the Dow Jones Utilities sector index posted the narrowest loss, down 1.18%. The Dow Jones Oil & Gas sector index posted the biggest loss, dropping 16.19%.
  • Globally, the Dow Jones Health Care sector index posted the narrowest loss, falling 5.50% in the Dow Jones Sector Titans Indexes. The Dow Jones Technology sector index posted the biggest loss, dropping 13.17%.

The Dow Jones Global Titans 50 Index measures the performance of 50 of the leading and best-known companies in the world.
