ISE Reports Monthly Volume For June 2005

The International Securities Exchange (NYSE: ISE) today reported equity options trading volume for June 2005. Average daily trading volume in equity options contracts increased 23.7% to 1.5 million contracts traded as compared to 1.2 million contracts traded in the same period in the prior year. Total equity options volume for the month increased 29.6% to 33.1 million contracts traded as compared to 25.5 million contracts traded in the same year-ago period.

On a year-to-date basis, average daily volume increased 16.7% to 1.7 million contracts traded as compared to 1.4 million contracts traded in the prior year. Total equity options volume increased 17.7% to 207.6 million contracts versus 176.4 million contracts in the same period last year.

  • ISE traded more volume in 502 of 747 issues in its listings than any other options exchange.
  • ISE was the lead market in June in the component equities of the following indexes and accounted for at least 66% of the total weighting in each index:
  • Dow Jones Industrial Average: 21 of 30 equities which represented 72% of the total weighting of the index.
  • S&P 500: 253 of 500 equities which represented 71% of the total weighting of the index.
  • Russell 1000: 321 of 1,000 equities which represented 66% of the total weighting of the index.
  • ISE launched options trading on the following indexes: ISE Semiconductors, ISE-CCM Homeland Security, ISE Oil and Gas Services, ISE Gold, and ISE Homebuilders.
