ISE Reports Monthly Volume For January 2005

The International Securities Exchange (ISE), the world's largest equity options exchange, today reported an increase in January trading volume. Average daily trading volume increased 22.6% compared to the prior month and 8.4% compared to the same period in the prior year.

  • ISE traded more volume in its own listings than any other options exchange.

  • ISE traded more volume in 490 of 724 issues in its listings than any other options exchange.

  • ISE was the lead market in January in the total weighting of the following indexes and accounted for at least 58% of the total weighting in each index:

    o Dow Jones Industrial Average: 19 of 30 equities (61%) that comprise the index.
    o S&P 500: 252 of 500 equities (61%) that comprise the index.
    o Russell 1000: 322 of 1,000 equities (58%) that comprise the index.

  • On January 10, 2005, ISE began trading options on the Standard & Poor's Depository Receipts® (SPY).

  • On January 21, 2005, ISE set a new record daily volume of 2,547,355 options contracts traded.
