IPE Restores Open Outcry Markets Following Technical Problems

Date 24/09/2003

The IPE, Europe's leading energy futures and options exchange, suffered a system failure during Tuesday evening which caused a delay to the opening of Wednesday's electronic and open outcry markets.

Engineers were called to investigate the computer hardware problem, which caused one of the servers to fail at 8:47pm London local time, but were unable to resolve the problem quickly. As a result the electronic trading markets were unable to open at 2am, but opened successfully at 4:15am.

In addition, the problem caused a delay to the commencement of trading on the open outcry markets, however the IPE was able to open the open outcry markets for both Brent Crude and Gas Oil futures at 10:45am London local time.

Once open, the electronic markets remained available on the ICE platform until the open outcry markets had been restored.
