Date 15/09/2004

The International Petroleum Exchange, Europe’s leading energy futures and options exchange, today announced that its flagship contract, IPE Brent Crude futures, had traded an all time record of 181,182 lots during its session on 14 September.

Volume traded for the contract exceeded the previous record set in February of this year by over two thousand lots and represents over 180 million barrels of crude oil and an underlying value of $7.5 billion at current prices.

Dr. Richard Ward, IPE Chief Executive said “Once again, the IPE has demonstrated the vital role that its contracts play for market participants when managing their price risk exposure in today’s volatile conditions.”
