IPE Gas Oil Futures Set New Daily Record

Date 13/06/2001

IPE Gas Oil futures reached a new daily record high on Tuesday 12 June 2001. The contract traded 60,639 lots, substantially beating the previous record set on 4 August 1999 when 57,778 lots were traded. This is equivalent to more than 6 million tonnes of gas oil.

The new record reinforces the strong performance of the IPE Gas Oil futures contract in recent years, with an annual growth rate of 15.7% in 2000 and a 5-year growth of nearly 60%.

Jackie Bullimore, Head of Oil Markets, said, "The IPE Gas Oil futures contract is a highly successful, liquid benchmark consistently attracting new market participants. The success of the contract is rooted in the broad trade participation that is a feature of the IPE markets generally. Our high standards of regulation coupled with the independent clearing services provided by the London Clearing House have enabled us to consistently increase our volumes. The new Gas Oil record yesterday adds to the new IPE Brent Crude futures record set in April"
