IPE Brent Crude Futures Contract Sets New Electronic Trading Record

Date 14/11/2001

The IPE, Europe's leading energy futures and options exchange, today announces that its flagship contract IPE Brent Crude futures traded record volumes this morning on its electronic trading platform, ETS II.

The amount of volume recorded today was 5,454 lots compared to the previous record set on 24 October 2001, when 3,863 lots were traded. This represents an increase of over 1,500 lots for this period of trading.

Jackie Bullimore, Head of Oil Markets said, "The oil market has shown significant volatility over the past few months. The falling price of oil and the uncertainty surrounding OPEC output has fuelled market activity."
