IPE Awarded Energy Exchange Of The Year By Commodities Now

Date 26/11/2003

Energy exchanges have had a good year, with many posting new volume records. The growth in exchange trading is indicative of the transition in the energy market. Credit is still a major issue and it is not surprising that recognised investment exchanges have benefited through their provision of standardised cleared contracts.

Many would look at the electricity exchanges when considering the category of Energy Exchange of the Year.

New electricity exchanges continue to open while others keep putting back the opening date. It is worth mentioning the growth of Amsterdam Power Exchange through its acquisitions of Automated Power Exchange (UK) and EnMO to form the APX Group. Silver Energy Trading award winner UKPX similarly.

But this year's recognition of Energy Exchange of the Year goes to Europe's original energy exchange - London's International Petroleum Exchange. Oil has been a major driver and catalyst of energy markets in 2003 through the Iraq war and the continuing.
