Investor Activity On WSE Markets – March 2015

  • The total trading value for equity transactions on the GPW Main Market in March 2015 totalled PLN 21.5 billion, which is equivalent to a 7.7% decline versus March 2014.  
  • The total trading value on NewConnect in March 2015 totalled PLN 216.9 million, i.e. more than doubled year-on-year.
  • The value of bond issues listed on Catalyst reached PLN 65.7 billion at the end of March 2015, which was up by 8.2% year-on-year.
  • The total turnover volume on the energy market in March 2015 amounted to 16.8 TWh, which is a 4.8% decline year-on-year.
  • The turnover volume for property rights to certificates of origin rose by 109.0% y-o-y in March 2015, reaching 9.1 TWh.
  • The total trading volume in natural gas on the spot and futures markets in March 2015 hit the mark of 11.7 TWh, up versus 0.4TWh one year earlier.

In March 2015 the value of order-book equities trading[1] on the Main Market totalled PLN 19.2 billion, which marks a 15.0% decline versus March 2014. The average daily value of order-book trading between January and March 2015 shrank by 13.7% y-o-y, down to PLN 838.6 million per session, and the average daily number of transactions during the same period reached 64.1 thousand.

The total trading value on NewConnect in March 2015 amounted to PLN 216.9 million, which represents an increase by 101.5% versus March 2014. The value of order-book trading in equities on NewConnect rose by 128.6% y-o-y in March 2015, reaching PLN 208.2 million.

The trading volume for index futures in March 2015 totalled 465.0 thousand. 20 June 2014 was the last day of trading in WIG20 futures with a multiplier of PLN 10. Starting from 23 June 2014, the trading has only included WIG20 futures with a multiplier of PLN 20. In order to obtain fully comparable data, the historical trading volume for WIG20 futures with a multiplier of PLN 10 (before 23 June 2014) was divided by two in the attached table (the item concerning index futures). If this adjustment is considered, the trading volume for index futures in March 2015 dropped by 14.6% vis-à-vis March 2014.

The trading volume for the remaining futures (equities, currencies, interest rates) in March 2015 reached 374.7 thousand, up by 42.3% y-o-y.

The value of non-treasury bond issues listed on Catalyst totalled PLN 65.7 billion at the end of March 2015, which represents an increase by 8.2% y-o-y.

The turnover value in spot transactions on the TBSP market in March 2015 rose by 11.6% y-o-y, up to PLN 31.2 billion.

The electricity trading volume on futures markets between January and March 2015 totalled 38.6 TWh, which is up by 10.3% y-o-y. In the case of spot transactions in the same period, the turnover volume rose by 8.9% y-o-y, reaching 7.1 TWh.

In March 2015, the turnover volume in property rights to certificates of origin increased by 109.0% y-o-y, reaching 9.1 TWh.

The total turnover volume for natural gas on spot and futures markets in March 2015 reached a level of 11.7 TWh, whereas it stood at 0.4 TWh a year earlier.

The capitalisation of the 420 domestic companies listed on the Main Market at the end of March 2015 amounted to PLN 618 billion (EUR 151 billion).

The total capitalisation of the 471 domestic and foreign companies listed on the WSE Main Market at the end of March 2015 stood at PLN 1,319.4 billion (EUR 322 billion).

In March 2015, Catalyst saw the first ever arrival of bonds from Tauron Polska Energia, Elemental Holding and EGB Investments. The total value of first-time bond issues on that market in March reached PLN 1,810 million.

In March 2015 the WSE held 22 trading sessions, one more than a year ago.
