Investor Activity On GPW Group Markets – September 2018 - Trading On GPW Group Markets

  • Increase of the value of trade in equities on the Electronic Order Book[1] on the GPW Main Market by 20.0% YoY to PLN 21.9 billion in September 2018
  • Decrease of the total volume of trade in futures by 1.7% YoY to 720.3 thousand contracts in September 2018
  • Increase of the total volume of trade in electricity by 145.7% to 30.8 TWh in September 2018
  • Increase of the total volume of trade in natural gas by 39.6% YoY to 19.4 TWh in September 2018
  • Increase of the volume of spot trade in property rights to certificates of origin[2] by 9.3% to 4.1 TWh in September 2018

The total value of trade in equities on the GPW Main Market was PLN 25.2 billion in September 2018, representing an increase of 28.7% year on year. The value of trade in equities on the Electronic Order Book increased by 20.0% year on year to PLN 21.9 billion in September 2018. The average daily value of trade in equities on the Electronic Order Book stood at PLN 1.1 billion in September 2018, an increase of 26.0% year on year. The WIG index stood at 58,974.76 points at the end of September 2018, representing a decrease of 8.3% year on year.

The total value of trade in equities on NewConnect decreased by 6.1% year on year to PLN 114.9 million in September 2018. The value of trade in equities on the Electronic Order Book on NewConnect decreased by 6.5% year on year and stood at PLN 102.6 million in September 2018.

The total volume of trade in derivatives was 720.3 thousand contracts in September 2018, representing a decrease of 1.7% year on year. The volume of trade in currency futures increased by 3.6% to 135.8 thousand contracts.

The value of non-Treasury bond issues listed on Catalyst was PLN 83.1 billion at the end of September 2018 compared to PLN 68.6 billion at the end of September 2017.[3] The value of trade in non-Treasury bonds on the Electronic Order Book on Catalyst decreased by 32.8% year on year to PLN 154.5 million in September 2018.

The total value of trade in bonds on TBSP was PLN 40.5 billion in September 2018, representing a decrease of 36.5% year on year.

The total volume of spot and forward transactions in electricity was 30.8 TWh in September 2018, representing an increase of 145.7% year on year. The volume of forward transactions in electricity increased by 167.4% year on year to 28.6 TWh.

The total volume of transactions in natural gas was 19.4 TWh in September 2018, representing an increase of 39.6% year on year. The volume of trade on the spot market decreased by 39.2% to 0.9 TWh. The volume of trade on the forward market increased by 48.5% and stood at 18.6 TWh.

The volume of spot transactions in property rights to certificates of origin excluding the rights to certificates of energy efficiency (“white certificates”)[1] was 4.1 TWh in September 2018, representing an increase of 9.3% year on year. The volume of trade in property rights to certificates of origin of energy efficiency (“white certificates”) decreased by 71.0% year on year to 17.5 ktoe[2] in September 2018.

The capitalisation of 421 domestic companies listed on the Main Market was PLN 624,62 bn (EUR 146,23 bn) at the end of September 2018. The total capitalisation of 470 domestic and foreign companies listed on the GPW Main Market was PLN 1 235,93 bn (EUR 289,35 bn) at the end of September 2018.

The company Medinice was newly listed on NewConnect in September 2018 with an IPO worth PLN 4.88 million.

GPW held 20 trading sessions in September 2018 compared to 21 sessions in September 2017.
