Investor Activity On GPW Group Markets – May 2017

  • Increase of the value of trade in equities on the Electronic Order Book1 on the Main Market by 73.5% YoY to PLN 21.7 billion
  • Average daily value of trade in equities on the Electronic Order Book at PLN 1.0 billion (+65.3% YoY)
  • Increase of the volume of trade in futures by 26.0% YoY to 671.4 thousand contracts
  • Increase of the total value of trade in bonds on TBSP by 67.7% YoY to PLN 45.6 billion
  • Increase of the volume of spot transactions in gas by 45.9% YoY to 1.8 TWh
  • Increase of the volume of trade in property rights from certificates of origin by 31.8% to 8.1 TWh2

The total value of trade in equities on the Main Market was PLN 22.1 billion in May 2017, representing an increase of 65.7% year on year. The value of trade in equities on the Electronic Order Book increased by 73.5% year on year to PLN 21.7 billion and the average daily value of trade in equities on the Electronic Order Book stood at PLN 1 billion in May 2017, an increase of 65.3% year on year. The WIG index stood at 60,092.07 points at the end of May 2017, representing an increase of 31.1% year on year.

The total value of trade in equities on NewConnect increased by 8.7% year on year. The value of trade in equities on the Electronic Order Book on the GPW alternative market was PLN 95.3 million (+8.9% year on year).

The total volume of trade in derivatives was 671.4 thousand contracts in May 2017, representing an increase of 26.0% year on year. The volume of trade in index futures was 416.3 thousand contracts in May 2017, representing an increase of 33.1% year on year. The volume of trade in single-stock futures increased by 38.4% year on year to 143.8 thousand contracts.

The value of non-Treasury bond issues listed on Catalyst was PLN 84.8 billion at the end of May 2017, representing an increase of 14.4% year on year. The value of trade in non-Treasury bonds on the Electronic Order Book on Catalyst decreased by 26% year on year to PLN 160.2 million. 

The total value of trade in bonds on TBSP was PLN 45.6 billion in May 2017, representing an increase of 67.7% year on year.

The total volume of transactions in gas was 6.9 TWh in May 2017, representing a decrease of 22.4% year on year. The volume of trade on the spot market increased by 45.9% and stood at 1.8 TWh. The total volume of spot and forward transactions in electricity was 8.8 TWh in May 2017, representing a decrease of 12.9% year on year.

The volume of spot and forward transactions in property rights to certificates of origin excluding the rights to certificates of energy efficiency (“white certificates”)3 was 8.1 TWh in May 2017, representing an increase of 31.8% year on year. The volume of trade in property rights to certificates of origin of energy efficiency (“white certificates”) was 39.3 ktoe4 in May 2017.

The capitalisation of 433 domestic companies listed on the Main Market was PLN 639.5 billion (EUR 153.2 billion) at the end of May 2017. The total capitalisation of 485 domestic and foreign companies listed on the GPW Main Market was PLN 1,318 billion (EUR 315.7 billion) at the end of May 2017. 
Bonds of the companies OEX (issue of PLN 20 million) and BIOGENED (issue of PLN 5 million) were newly listed on Catalyst in May 2017.

GPW held 21 trading sessions in May 2017, 1 more than in May 2016.
