Investments In Thailand’s mai-Listed Firms Resulted In An Average 5.41% Dividend Yield For 2004

Twenty listed firms on the mai (Market for Alternative Investment) announced dividend payments for the year 2004 totaling THB589.71 mln., representing a 5.41% average dividend yield. Firms with the highest yields were Unique Mining Services Pcl. (UMS), Pack Delta Pcl. (PD), and RK Media Holding Pcl. (RK).

President of the mai, Mr. Vichate Tantiwanich, disclosed that: “The operational performance of the 23 listed companies on the mai for the year 2004 turned out to be extraordinary, with a 29% growth in net profits. 20 of them, or 87% of the total companies on the mai, have announced dividend payments, with an average yield (dividends paid as a percentage of the corresponding stock price) of the mai-listed companies of approximately 5.41%, which is very satisfactory when compared to the current savings deposit rate of only 1%.”

This year, companies that announced the highest dividend yields are: 1) Unique Mining Services Pcl. (UMS) which will pay out THB105 mln. or THB1.50 per share, or a 10.07% dividend yield.

2) Pack Delta Pcl. (PD) which will pay out THB40 mln. or THB1.00 per share, equivalent to a 9.62% dividend yield.

3) RK Media Holding Pcl. (RK) which will pay out THB15 mln. or THB0.15 per share, equal to a 9.26% dividend yield.

Mr. Vichate added that the dividend amount may not be high-- however, when compared to the stock prices, the yields look more than satisfactory.

In addition to the above-mentioned 3 firms, other companies had high dividend yields. These include Solution Corner (1998) Pcl. (SLC) which will pay THB0.40 per share, equal to an 8.77 yield; Sherwood Chemicals Pcl. (SWC) which will pay THB0.70 per share, or an 8.15% yield; and CM Organizer Pcl. (CMO), which will pay THB0.21 per share or an 8.02% yield.

For Pico Thailand Pcl. (PICO), the company will pay THB0.27 per share as a cash dividend plus 0.77 new shares per existing share as a stock dividend.

The mai currently has 23 listed companies. The mai index as of March 15, 2005 stood at 200.49. Average trading turnover in March 2005 was THB100.5 mln. Total market capitalization was recorded at THB11.423 bln.
