International Zinc Association Opens Membership Beyond Miners and Refiners

Date 29/11/2002

Important changes to the membership structure of the International Zinc Association (IZA) have been agreed at its General Assembly on 10 October. These changes will ensure that first-tier zinc users and producers of value-added zinc products can play a fuller role in IZA activities:
  • Producers of value-added products, e.g., zinc alloy, zinc oxide, zinc sheet and zinc wire, can now choose between Full and Affiliate Membership. Full Membership will allow full voting rights and the entitlement to propose a Director of IZA.
  • First-tier users (die-casters, galvanizers, etc) can become Affiliate Members and participate directly in IZA's market development, education, image and environmental programmes. All IZA members benefit from involvement in IZA's global effort to build a sustainable future for zinc - including its targeted growth rate of 4% per annum and participation in the worldwide network of zinc industry organisations and programmes.

These new opportunities have already been grasped by Zinc Industrias Nacionales SA - who were the first company to enter Affiliate Membership. "This ensures we can play an active role on the world zinc stage and contribute to our common goals" said Javier Rivero, Managing Director of ZINSA who produce a wide range of zinc products including zinc oxide, zinc dust, die-casting alloys and zinc anodes at its Callao plant in Peru. "This is a major step forward for IZA" explains IZA Executive Director, Edouard Gervais, "We will benefit from the knowledge and skills of these companies and they will help IZA to grow their business".

Companies interested in IZA membership can request further details by email to email@iza.com
