International Securities Exchange Introduces Intraday Updates To ISE Sentiment Index (ISEE)

Date 25/05/2004

The International Securities Exchange (ISE) said today that the ISE Sentiment Index (ISEE), which provides information on how options traders view the direction of stock prices, is now updated throughout the trading day.

The ISE Sentiment Index is updated every hour and its value displayed prominently on the International Securities Exchange's web page at www.iseoptions.com. Previously, the sentiment index was updated at the end of each trading session.

"ISE has always strived to provide investors with tools that enable them to better navigate the market," said Bruce D. Goldberg, ISE's Senior Vice President of Marketing. "Offering intraday updates to the ISEE can provide a current snapshot of customer sentiment in the marketplace, which we believe is of interest to investors."

The ISE Sentiment Index (ISEE) is designed to show how investors view stock prices. The ISEE only measures opening long customer transactions on ISE. Transactions made by market makers and firms are not included in ISEE because they are not considered representative of market sentiment due to the often specialized nature of those transactions. Customer transactions, meanwhile, are often thought to best represent market sentiment because customers, which include individual investors, often buy call and put options to express their sentiment toward a particular stock.
