Pointing out that football dominates the entertainment sector Minister Mehmet Muharrem Kasapoğlu said:
“Football needs to be handled as a sports activity that grows consistently every year, incorporates a large industry and dominates the entertainment sector of our time. The World football economy has exceeded 50 billion USD. Five major leagues, including France, Spain and Germany have a share of 15 percent. The total income of those countries is between 15-18 billion EUR. The value of our Super League is 615 million EUR. Although we are the seventh country in Europe, the income of Netherlands which is not one of top 10 countries is 1 billion EUR above the income of Turkey. It is an important mission for us to gain the value our football deserves.”
In his speech, Borsa İstanbul General Manager Mehmet Hakan Atilla said “Football has an important share in sports activities. Actually, it does not seem possible to consider football only as a sport anymore. Because, when we look at the revenues that reach the billion dollar level, especially the market values of the clubs and the returning volume, I can easily say that we are talking about a different ecosystem here. Borsa İstanbul always wants to support our clubs in this sense. In particular, we want to assist them with our products and services which are used in order to manage foreign exchange risks. In the same way, I want you to know that we will make every effort to pave the way for our clubs to obtain financial resources they need through capital markets.”
