Indicative selections for Amsterdam Exchanges and Amsterdam Midkap indices
Date 15/09/1999
Amsterdam Exchanges has made an indicative selection of the constituent shares in the Amsterdam Exchanges (AEX) and Amsterdam Midkap (AMX) indices on the basis of the value of turnover up to 31 August 1999. The period used for determining the selection for the AEX index was recently cut from three calendar years to one calendar
year, and the value of turnover used for determining the selection for the AMX index will no longer be weighted but will be the unweighted value of turnover over one calendar year. Under the new index rules, non-Dutch shares in the limit order book can be included in the indices.
The value of turnover for a number of shares has been extrapolated, whereby the figures for the first twenty days of trading were not included in the calculation. This was done to
remove the impact of the flotation of a security on its value of turnover.
Current figures indicate that the indices will change as follows: Getronics, which is currently in the AMX index, and United Pan-Europe Communications (UPC) will be included in the AEX index; KLM and Buhrmann will be transferred from the AEX index to the AMX index; Gucci and Libertel will be included in the AMX index; AOT and Koninklijke Ahrend will be removed from the AMX index.
These indicative changes are purely hypothetical, as the indices are actually adjusted only once a year in February.
