- The Derivatives Market traded 8.7 million contracts in September, up 26% from the same month a year earlier. It is worth mentioning the trading in IBEX Options, up 48% from a year earlier at 934,139 contracts and Mini IBEX Futures, with 336,072 contracts up 38% from a year earlier, both of them monthly record highs.
- Trading in Corporate Debt came in at around €1.5 trillion in the first nine months, up 81.1% from the same period in 2007.
Equities
The number of trades on the Spanish stock exchange in September came in at 3.4 million, up 27.5% from the same month in 2007. The number of equity trades increased by 6.9% in the first nine months of the year from a year earlier to 27.2 million, from 25.4 million in the same period in 2007.
The trading volume for the first nine months of the year totaled €989.70 bn, up 24% from the same period in 2006 and down 19.6% from the same period in 2007. The equity trading volume reported by the Spanish electronic order book (SIBE) in September came in at €101.74 bn, up 51.07% from the previous month.
In September trading on the ETFs segment reached €5.29 bn, up 103.3% from the same period in 2007. In September 2008 trading on this segment was €257.5 million, up 55.6% from the same month a year earlier.
Futures and Options
In September trading on BME’s Derivatives Market came in at 8,705,287 contracts, up 26% from a year earlier. In September IBEX Options reported a monthly record high, at 934,139 contracts, up 48% from a year earlier. Also worth mentioning are Futuros IBEX Mini, which grew by 38% from a year earlier to 336,072 contracts. Options on Stocks reported a trading volume of 1,859,866 contracts, up 46% from a year earlier.
The trading volume on this market for the first nine months of the year totaled 61.5 million contracts, up 79% from the same period in 2007. Highlights include Stock Futures, which posted 35.3 million contracts and a year on year increase of 179% and IBEX Options, with 6.2 million contracts and a 57% increase from a year earlier.
Warrants and Certificates
The number of warrants traded to the end of September was 7,236, up 49% from the same period in 2007.
Trading volumes in September on the warrants and certificates market came in at €269.2 million and the number of trades reached 57,547.
The trading volume to the end of September on this segment came in at €2.29 bn, down 42.1% from 2007 while the number of trades was 439,678, down 29.9% from the same period a year earlier.
Corporate Debt
Corporate Debt trading in September was €169.83 bn, up 106.2% from the same period a year ago. The trading volume in the first nine months of the year was €1.48 trillion, up 81.1% from the same period a year earlier.
New issues in September came in at €24.65 bn. The total volume of new issues to the end of September was €356.08 bn, down 28.1% from the same period last year.
The outstanding balance at the end of September was €812.63 bn, up 11.4% from a year earlier.
Public Debt
In September trading volume on BME’S Public Debt market was €9.69 bn, representing a 75.5% market share of all the domestic trading platforms and a 173% increase from the same period a year earlier.
