- NIFTY 50 closed at 9,173.75 as on March 31, 2017, an increase of 1,435.35 points (18.55%) as against 7,738.40 and NIFTY Next 50 closed at 25,119.45, an increase of 6,362.85 points (33.92%) as against 18,756.60 as on March 31, 2016.
- The free float market capitalization of NIFTY 50 index was USD 528.22 Bn. as on March 31, 2017 as against USD 417.85 Bn. as on March 31, 2016. The free float market capitalization of NIFTY Next 50 index was USD 100.18 Bn. as on March 31, 2017 as against USD 80.26 Bn. as on March 31, 2016.
- Most indices across all categories gained during the one year period ending March 31, 2017. The biggest overall gainer during the 1 year period ending March 31, 2017 is NIFTY Metal (61.90%) and biggest gainers in their respective index categories are NIFTY Smallcap 50 (44.01%) in broad market index category, NIFTY Midcap Liquid 15 (43.75%) in thematic index category, NIFTY High Beta 50 (38.00%) in strategy index category and NIFTY Metal (61.90%) in sectoral index category. NIFTY IT index (-5.36%) was the biggest loser during the 1 year period.
- During the 1 month period ending March 31, 2017, NIFTY Realty Index gained the most (9.00%) amongst all the indices during the month whereas the NIFTY Mahindra Group index (-2.06%) was the biggest loser during the month.
- During the 3 month period ending March 31, 2017, the biggest gainer overall was NIFTY Realty Index (30.00%) and biggest gainers in various categories are NIFTY Full Smallcap 100 (24.79%) in broad market index category, NIFTY Midcap Liquid 15 (23.54%) in thematic index category, NIFTY Alpha 50 (26.56%) in strategy index category and NIFTY Realty (30.00%) in sectoral index category.

- Effective March 31, 2017, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. and Indiabulls Housing Finance Ltd. have been included and Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. and Idea Cellular Ltd. have been excluded from NIFTY 50 index. On the same day, IDFC Bank Ltd. replaced Bank of India in NIFTY Bank index.
