Summary:

NIFTY 50 closed at 9,917.90 as on August 31, 2017, decrease of 159.20 points (-1.58%) as against 10,077.10 as on July 31, 2017.

The free float market capitalization of NIFTY 50 index was USD 585.75 Bn. as on August 31, 2017 as against USD 594.58 Bn. as on July 31,2017. The free float market capitalization of NIFTY Next 50 index was USD 110.59 Bn. as on August 31, 2017 as against USD 109.97 Bn. as on July 31, 2017.

During the 1 month period ending August 31, 2017, NIFTY Metal gained the most (6.59%) amongst all the indices whereas the NIFTY PSU Bank index (-11.59%) was the biggest loser. Biggest gainers in various categories are NIFTY Next 50 (0.47%) in broad market index category, NIFTY Commodities (4.50%) in thematic index category, NIFTY Dividend Opportunities 50 (1.87%) in strategy index category and NIFTY Metal (6.59%) in sectoral index category.

During the 3 month period ending August 31, 2017, the biggest overall gainer was NIFTY Metal Index (17.67%) and biggest gainers in various categories are NIFTY Free Float Smallcap 100 (7.87%) in broad market index category, NIFTY Energy (10.27%) in thematic index category, NIFTY Alpha 50 (8.52%) in strategy index category and NIFTY Metal (17.67%) in sectoral index category.

p>The biggest overall gainer during the 1 year period ending August 31, 2017 is NIFTY Realty (36.41%) and biggest gainers in their respective index categories are NIFTY Smallcap 50 (28.47%) in broad market index category, NIFTY Energy (36.08%) in thematic index category, NIFTY Alpha 50 (31.17%) in strategy index category and NIFTY Realty (36.41%) in sectoral index category. NIFTY Pharma index (-22.89%) is the biggest loser during the 1 year period.

 

During the month, UTI AMC launched exchange traded funds linked to NIFTY Next 50 Index.

As part of semi-annual review of indices, IISL on August 28, 2017 announced replacements in various indices including NIFTY 50 index. Effective September 29, 2017, Bajaj Finance Limited, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, UPL Limited will be included in NIFTY 50
