There are two main reasons why ICEX has decided to close the trading system on New Year's Eve:
- European exchanges are generally closed on New Year's Eve with very few exceptions.
- The equity turnover has decreased considerably compared to last year. Therefore, the market could lack the necessary liquidity during this half day. ICEX therefore believes, that it would not be in the best interest of the market to keep the trading system open on New Year's Eve as closing prices on the last trading day of the year are particularly important.
