ICAP’s 19th Annual Charity Day Raises A Record £12.75 Million

Date 08/12/2011

ICAP, the world’s leading interdealer broker, raised a record £12.75 million (US$20 million) worldwide on its 19th annual Charity Day, held yesterday. This brings the total amount raised through the ICAP Charity Day, which started in 1993, to £89.35 million.
In London, ICAP was honoured to be joined by Her Royal Highness, The Duchess of Cornwall, in support of the charity Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres, of which The Duchess is Patron. The Duchess of Cornwall brokered several trades including one of $27 billion/€20 billion, the largest foreign exchange trade ever, between Barclays and Citigroup.
Lewis Hamilton, Rod Stewart and Penny Lancaster were just a few of the stars who visited the London office to trade with ICAP’s customers. Oprah Winfrey and Jessica Alba were among the charity patrons to visit the office in New York. Former President S R Nathan visited the Singapore office while Kevin Spacey attended in Sydney. Events were held in more than 60 offices worldwide.
Michael Spencer, Group Chief Executive Officer of ICAP, said: “It’s an incredible achievement in these difficult times. I’d like to thank all our employees, customers and suppliers, as well as our very distinguished guests, for the huge effort they made to raise this figure for the 200 charities we are supporting this year around the world. It will have an enormous impact on every one of these deserving causes.”
The £12.75 million raised yesterday tops last year’s figure of £12.1 million. 100% of ICAP’s revenues and 100% of its brokers' commissions from the day go direct to charities. This year, ICAP is supporting about 200 charities globally, having supported more than 1,000 charities since the first Charity Day in 1993.
