Hong Kong's Securities And Futures Commission Welcomes Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect Pilot Programme

Date 11/04/2014

The Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) welcomes the development of Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect, a pilot programme for establishing mutual stock market access between the Mainland and Hong Kong.

Approval has been given in principle by the SFC and the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) for the development of the pilot programme, as detailed in a joint announcement issued by the two regulators today (Note 1).

"The pilot programme will provide a unique opportunity for Hong Kong and Mainland investors to participate in the other’s market. The SFC looks forward to working closely with the CSRC in facilitating this mechanism for the benefit of both markets and the investing public,” the SFC’s Chairman, Mr Carlson Tong, said.

The launch of the pilot programme is subject to finalisation of all necessary regulatory approvals, market readiness and relevant operational arrangements.

The SFC and the CSRC will also take all necessary measures to ensure an effective regulatory regime is in place under Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect to respond to all misconduct in either or both markets on a timely basis and to strengthen cross-boundary enforcement cooperation.
