The Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) reminds all relevant market participants that with effect on 15 March 2017 (Note 1), reporting will be required for reportable short positions in all Designated Securities eligible for short selling (Note 2) specified by The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited.
Market participants are further reminded to ensure that they have systems and procedures in place to comply with the new requirements. For more details, market participants can refer to the latest Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) published on the SFC website.
The SFC will provide a pilot testing environment in early 2017 to facilitate market participants’ preparation for the new requirements. Further details will be available by the end of 2016.

- The date when The Securities and Futures (Short Position Reporting) (Amendment) Rules 2016 takes effect. A public consultation on the new requirements ended on 31 December 2015 and the corresponding consultation conclusions were published on 24 February 2016.
- The list of Designated Securities eligible for short selling is published on the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited's website. Starting from 15 March 2017, the SFC will cease publishing the List of Specified Shares on its website.
