The Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) today commences the weekly publication of aggregated short positions of specified shares under the Securities and Futures (Short Position Reporting) Rules (Rules) (Note 1).
The weekly publication posted on the SFC site (www.sfc.hk) today reflects the short positions of such shares as of last Friday, 31 August reported to the SFC as of Tuesday, 4 September.
"In publishing short positions, we aim to increase market transparency and offer the public a better picture of short-selling activities in the Hong Kong market,” said Mr Ashley Alder, the SFC’s Chief Executive Officer.
Under the Rules, reportable short positions must be reported to the SFC within two business days from the last trading day of each week. The aggregated short positions reported will be published three business days later, usually on a Friday.
Note:
- Rule 6 of the Rules provides for the SFC to publish appropriate particulars of the reportable short positions in an anonymous manner. “Specified shares” are set out in Schedule 1 to the Rules.
