Hong Kong's Securities And Futures Commission: Executive Director, Intermediaries Division

Date 25/02/2016

The Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) announces that Ms Julia Leung, currently Executive Director, Investment Products, will succeed Mr James Shipton as Executive Director, Intermediaries Division with effect from 19 June 2016 (Note 1).

The SFC’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Ashley Alder, said: "During his time with us, James oversaw the formation of a new Intermediaries Division, combining the existing licencing and supervision teams under one roof and then leading a reorganisation of the Division which emphasises greater specialisation to enable us to more effectively regulate an increasingly complex marketplace."

"James has also established valuable new relationships with overseas regulators who supervise cross border firms operating in Hong Kong.  I would like to thank James for his contribution and wish him all the best in his future endeavours."

"I am confident that Julia, who has already made a significant contribution to the work of the Commission since joining us last year, will lead the Intermediaries Division with the energy, commitment and the strategic awareness which has been a hallmark of her time overseeing the Investment Products Division," Mr Alder added.

The SFC will shortly commence a recruitment exercise for Ms Leung’s replacement as Executive Director of the Investment Products Division.

Note:

  1. Mr Shipton’s three-year contract as Executive Director ends on 18 June 2016.
