The Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) and the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) today co-hosted two industry roundtables on cross-listings of companies and investment products respectively, following the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the SFC and the SC earlier today (Note 1).
The roundtables, which marked the first engagement under the newly signed MoU, brought together senior executives of the exchanges of the two markets – Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad and The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited – as well as more than 120 industry stakeholders from Malaysia, including representatives from major Malaysian and international investment banks.
Ms Julia Leung, the SFC’s Chief Executive Officer, led the Hong Kong delegation which comprises 33 senior executives of Hong Kong asset managers, market makers and investment banks. Key delegates include the chairpersons of the Hong Kong Investment Funds Association and the Chinese Asset Management Association of Hong Kong, with the participating asset managers managing over 80% of the total market capitalisation of the Hong Kong exchange traded funds and leveraged and inverse products market.
At the roundtables, both regulators reaffirmed their shared vision to enhance mutual market access between Hong Kong and Malaysia. Industry leaders also exchanged views on opportunities and operational experiences on cross-listings of companies and investment products, as well as collaboration opportunities between the two markets.
