HKMEx Appoints Director Of Business Development Projects

The Hong Kong Mercantile Exchange (“HKMEx”), China’s global marketplace, today announced the appointment of Eric Maine as Director of Business Development Projects, responsible for managing new product launches from origination to market execution and delivery.   

Mr Maine, who joins the Exchange with over 25 years of experience in the exchange and financial markets, will be based in Hong Kong and reports to HKMEx Co-President William Barkshire.

“We are delighted to have someone of Eric’s calibre on board as we embark on a new drive to bring more innovative products to the market.  Given his deep industry expertise and experience, Eric will play a significant role in driving and delivering our unique product and service initiatives to meet the region’s trading and risk management needs,” said Mr Barkshire. 

Prior to joining HKMEx, Mr Maine was Head of Product Development and Management, Commodities at Singapore Exchange (SGX).  Before that, he spent more than two years at the Singapore Mercantile Exchange where he was Head of Product and Research.  Prior to that, he held a similar position at the IntercontinentalExchange (ICE).  
Outside of the exchange space, he has served in several senior positions in New York with investment firm Canning/Maine Inc, Allied Irish Banks and Prudential-Bache (now Jefferies Bache).
Mr Maine holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Villanova University.

HKMEx currently offers a 32 troy ounces (1 kilo) gold futures contract and a 1,000 troy ounces silver futures contract. Both are denominated in US dollars with physical delivery in Hong Kong. Going forward, the Exchange plans to launch gold and copper contracts denominated in renminbi, followed by other products in precious and base metals, as well as energy, agriculture, and commodity indices.
