HKEX Welcomes Rona Fairhead And Megan Greene To International Advisory Council

Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) is pleased to announce today (Tuesday) the appointment of Baroness Rona Fairhead and Ms Megan Greene to the HKEX International Advisory Council.

HKEX Chairman Laura M Cha said: “I am delighted to welcome Rona Fairhead and Megan Greene to the HKEX International Advisory Council. Their extensive experience as highly regarded leaders and their broad understanding of international economic and finance policy will be invaluable to the HKEX Board, as we deliver on our strategy and shape the future of global markets.”

Established in 2019, the Council comprises experts in economics, business, technology and finance from around the world who act as advisors to the HKEX Board of Directors. The Council contributes to HKEX’s understanding of the global environment, including knowledge of developments in other major financial centres, advancements in technology and global policy and regulatory initiatives.

With the addition of Baroness Fairhead and Ms Greene, the Council now comprises seven members, and is chaired by HKEX Chairman, Laura M Cha.

The other Council members are: Mr Stuart Gulliver, Board Director at Saudi Aramco, The Saudi British Bank, Jardine Matheson Holdings Limited and the Airport Authority Hong Kong, and former Group Chief Executive and Chairman of the Group Management Board of HSBC Holdings plc; Mr Weijian Shan, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of PAG Group; Mr Neil Shen, Steward of Sequoia Capital, Founding and Managing Partner of Sequoia Capital China; and Mr Joseph Tsai, Executive Vice Chairman of Alibaba Group.

Baroness Fairhead and Ms Greene will be appointed for an initial term of three years, subject to renewal.

Baroness Rona Fairhead Biography

Baroness Rona Fairhead, CBE, is Chair of RS Group plc, a Non-Executive Director of Oracle Corporation and a member of the United Kingdom’s House of Lords. She previously served as Minister of State for Trade and Export Promotion at the UK Department for International Trade (2017-2019); Chair of the British Broadcasting Corporation Trust (2014-2017); Independent Non-Executive Director of HSBC Holdings plc (2004-2016); Chair and Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Times Group Limited (2006-2013); and as Non-Executive Director of The Economist Newspaper Limited (2005-2013).

She holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in Law from the University of Cambridge and a Master in Business Administration from Harvard Business School. She is an Honorary Doctor of Queen’s University, Belfast and Teesside University and an Honorary Fellow of St Catharine’s College, Cambridge.

Ms Megan Greene Biography

Ms Megan Greene is Global Chief Economist for the Kroll Institute, where she advises on the potential impact of global macroeconomic developments and policy on the firm’s business services and those of its clients.

She serves as a Senior Fellow at the Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs at Brown University and also teaches at Schwarzman College (Tsinghua University) and the European University Institute.  She is also the first Dame DeAnne Julius Senior Fellow in International Economics at Chatham House. She serves on the Academic Advisory Committee at the San Francisco Federal Reserve and writes a regular column on global macroeconomics for The Financial Times. 

She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Economy from Princeton University and a Master of Science in International Relations from the University of Oxford. Previously, she was a Senior Fellow at the Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Business and Government at Harvard Kennedy School and Global Chief Economist at John Hancock/Manulife Asset Management.
