- New funding scheme to support innovative research projects that connect today with tomorrow
- Run in partnership with Hong Kong’s universities and focused on supporting projects in finance, business, biotechnology, green finance and ESG
Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) is today (Wednesday) pleased to announce the launch of the HKEX Research Funding Scheme, a new HKEX Foundation programme to nurture local talent and support the research and development capabilities at Hong Kong’s universities and tertiary institutions.
The Scheme will each year fund research projects hosted or recognised by local universities with a focus on application of innovative technologies and ideas in financial markets, business, biotechnology, green finance and ESG.
HKEX Chairman Laura M Cha said: “HKEX is committed to promoting the sustainable development and long-term prosperity of our markets and our community. We are very proud to be launching this new research funding programme, which will help provide valuable insight into financial markets, our community and our shared sustainable future. Together we will look to build long-term positive change to our society.
“In supporting local universities, we will direct more resources to insightful and actionable research and innovation, contributing to shaping our future in Hong Kong and beyond.”
The theme for the programme’s inaugural year is “Connecting Today with Tomorrow” – one of HKEX’s three strategic pillars. Further details on the programme will be announced in due course.
HKEX Foundation was launched in 2020 to strengthen HKEX’s commitment and engagement with its community by promoting financial literacy, diversity and inclusion, environmental sustainability and poverty relief. Since launch, it has raised $140 million, and supported 28 community projects that benefitted more than 370,000 individuals. HKEX in the last 22 years has donated more than $1.43 billion to charitable causes.
In addition to the new Research Funding Scheme, HKEX Foundation also runs a successful University Scholarship Programme, supporting talent in Hong Kong, helping them to reach their full potential. Today the HKEX Foundation Scholarship Programme has supported 23 scholars, since it was launched in 2020.
