Today we released HKEX’s Strategic Plan 2019-2021, an ambitious blueprint that aims to push Hong Kong and our financial market into a new era of innovation and connectivity.
I’ve provided a very detailed summary of the Strategic Plan in a Chinese-language blog published today to explain our thinking in a more familiar style for our Chinese readers. In English, we have provided a wealth of materials on our new Strategic Plan Microsite which provides more context for our plan and how we intend to achieve our goals.
The Strategic Plan 2019-2021 is the next step on a journey we began nine years ago. The acquisition of the London Metal Exchange, launch of Stock Connect and Bond Connect, and introduction of new products in new asset classes like Fixed Income and Currency have set the stage for the next era in the growth and internationalisation of China as well as new opportunities in the global marketplace.
Hong Kong - the ultimate connector between East and West - thrives when it creates value. Our Strategic Plan centres around China, global connectivity, and technology. Its goal of developing a rich product ecosystem that’s attractive to both Mainland and international investors while embracing creativity and technological innovation marks a clear vision of our future. That future will heavily depend on how we harness that technology and how we invest in our people.
Today is an exciting day because we get to share our plans with you for the first time. I invite you to take some time to visit our Strategic Plan Microsite and listen to our presentation to journalists for more details.
We are at the start of our next journey, one that aims to make Hong Kong even more relevant as a global financial centre and bring even greater prosperity to our community. I can’t wait to get started.
