An event was held today, April 3rd, 2014, during which the Chair of the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) Mr. Steven Maijoor declared the start of the trading session by ringing the traditional opening bell.
The Chief Executive Officer of Hellenic Exchanges Group, Mr. Socrates Lazaridis stated during the event: «HELEX welcomes ESMA's objectives and work on the European securities markets, currently focusing among others on the implementation of EMIR which is one of the most important issues this period. Mr Steven Maijoor, pointed out: «The role of the capital markets is particularly important for Europe's economies. Given the difficult situation of the banks in Europe the exchanges are the ones that can - through diversification of products and services - play a significant role in helping growth. At the same time regulation and supervision governing capital markets provide the necessary trust for their operation to investors»
