  • Polski Bank Komórek Macierzystych (Polish Stem Cell Bank, PBKM) listed on GPW has won the European Small and Mid-Cap Awards 2018 as a Star of Innovation
  • The annual Awards are organised by the Federation of European Securities Exchanges (FESE) and European Issuers in partnership with the European Commission

Polski Bank Komórek Macierzystych (Polish Stem Cell Bank) has won this year’s European Small and Mid-Cap Awards 2018 as a Star of Innovation. The winner has been listed on the GPW Main Market since April 2016 and participates in the small-cap index sWIG80.

“Once again, a company listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange has been awarded in the prestigious European Small and Mid-Cap Awards 2018. Entering the finals is a great reward by itself. I congratulate the winner. Its success is also a success of the Warsaw Stock Exchange. I am glad that a GPW-listed company has been recognised and rewarded for innovation. I am certain that issuers listed on GPW are highly evaluated for quality on the international market thanks to contests like the Awards. I believe there will be even more reason to celebrate in the future,” said Marek Dietl, President of GPW.

Several months ago, PBKM and another GPW-listed company Dino (nominated as a Star of 2018) were short-listed in the finals by decision of an international panel led by the European Commission with the support of European Issuers.

Established by FESE and European Issuers, the European Small and Mid-Cap Awards promote the fastest growing companies on the European capital market.

The nomination in the competition followed by the entry in the finals was a great success. We ranked first as a Star of Innovation in the European Small and Mid-Cap Awards 2018. This is a special reward for us and an indication that the FamiCord Group is a European leader with a business model focused on innovation. The award is particularly valued as it is granted by an independent international jury comprised of capital market authorities and leading European financial journalists. I wish to thank everyone who made our success possible, in particular our employees. Their contribution and commitment to building the position of the FamiCord Group in international markets as well as in Poland have been rewarded,” said Jakub Baran, CEO of PBKM.

The European Small and Mid-Cap Awards are open to companies which had an IPO in 2016-2017 and whose stock price rose after the IPO. The capitalisation of competition entrants as at the date of the IPO is capped at EUR 1 billion.

PBKM leads the international FamiCord Group which manages stem cell banks in Europe and in Turkey. The FamiCord Group is by far the biggest stem cell bank in Europe as measured by the number of new B2C and B2B samples, boasting a ca. 28% market share after the recent M&A deal in Portugal. PBKM’s core business is to harvest, process and store stem cells from umbilical cord blood and cord tissue at the request of parents. In addition, the PBKM Group invests in the development of services involving the production of advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMP), which are considered a key medical development.
