The Honorable Governor Tim Pawlenty is expected to deliver the keynote message at the Minneapolis Grain Exchange’s 125th Anniversary celebration on Saturday, Oct. 7 at The Depot in downtown Minneapolis. The Governor is expected to address the more than 650 grain industry leaders and guests who will gather to celebrate the 125-year history of the Exchange at 7:30 p.m.
The Minneapolis Grain Exchange was established in 1881 by many prominent civic leaders and businessmen. One such person was Charles Loring, better known now for his leadership in the development of the Minneapolis park system. Before long, leadership in the Exchange included names still recognizable today including Pillsbury, Washburn, Crosby and Dunwoody.
“The Minneapolis Grain Exchange has played a key role in the development of Minneapolis and the surrounding area,” says Martin F. Farrell, Chair of the 125th Commemoration Commission. “We’re honored that the Governor will make time in his schedule to help recognize the Exchange’s accomplishments during the last 125 years.”
The 125th Anniversary Gala is a celebration of the vision of Exchange founders and early leaders. Today the Exchange is an international marketplace for hard red spring wheat futures and options and just completed another year of record volume growth.
