GlobalData has announced the latest Financial and Legal Adviser League Tables, which rank advisers by the total value and volume of merger and acquisition (M&A) deals they advised on in the oil & gas sector during 2025.

Morgan Stanley and RBC Capital Markets top M&A financial advisers in oil & gas sector by value and volume in 2025
Morgan Stanley and RBC Capital Markets were the top mergers and acquisitions (M&A) financial advisers in the oil & gas sector during 2025 by value and volume, respectively, according to the latest financial advisers league table by GlobalData, a leading intelligence and productivity platform.
An analysis of GlobalData’s Financial Deals Database reveals that Morgan Stanley achieved the leading position in terms of value by advising on $57.3 billion worth of deals. Meanwhile, RBC Capital Markets led in terms of volume by advising on a total of 24 deals.
Aurojyoti Bose, Lead Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “RBC Capital Markets, not only led by volume but also advised on several big-ticket deals during 2025, which helped it secure the second position by value as well, having advised on $41.6 billion worth of deals. During the year, RBC Capital Markets advised on 13 billion-dollar deals*.
“Meanwhile, Morgan Stanley advised on 10 billion-dollar deals that also included two mega deals valued more than $10 billion. In fact, it was the only adviser to surpass the $50 billion-mark during 2025. The global financial services firm also held the second position by volume with 16 deals.”

JPMorgan occupied the third position in terms of value, by advising on $38.1 billion worth of deals, followed by Evercore with $37.9 billion and Goldman Sachs with $30 billion.
Meanwhile, Evercore occupied the third position in terms of volume with 16 deals, followed by JPMorgan with 14 deals and Jefferies with 14 deals.

Kirkland & Ellis top M&A legal adviser in oil & gas sector during 2025
Kirkland & Ellis was the top mergers and acquisitions (M&A) legal adviser in the oil & gas sector during 2025 by both value and volume, according to the latest legal advisers league table by GlobalData, a leading intelligence and productivity platform.
An analysis of GlobalData’s Financial Deals Database reveals that Kirkland & Ellis achieved the leading position having advised on 51 deals worth $81.9 billion.
Aurojyoti Bose, Lead Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “Kirkland & Ellis was the top adviser by value as well as volume in 2024 and managed to retain its leadership positions in 2025 also.
“In terms of volume, it was comfortably ahead of other advisers. However, the margin was relatively less by value. It is noteworthy that Kirkland & Ellis registered improvement in the total number of deals advised during 2025 compared to the previous year but registered a drop in value terms.”

Latham & Watkins occupied the second position in terms of value, by advising on $78.4 billion worth of deals, followed by Simpson Thacher & Bartlett with $48.4 billion, Sullivan & Cromwell with $43.6 billion and Vinson & Elkins with $39.4 billion.
Meanwhile, Latham & Watkins occupied the second position in terms of volume with 35 deals, followed by Vinson & Elkins with 30 deals, Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher with 21 deals and White & Case with 16 deals.
