GlobalData has announced the latest Financial and Legal Adviser League Tables, which rank the advisers by the total value and volume of merger and acquisition (M&A) deals they advised on in the consumer sector during Q1-Q3 2024. See the rankings and findings below.

Goldman Sachs and Houlihan Lokey top M&A financial advisers in consumer sector during Q1-Q3 2024
Goldman Sachs and Houlihan Lokey were the top mergers and acquisitions (M&A) financial advisers in the consumer sector during Q1-Q3 2024 by value and volume, respectively, according to the latest financial advisers league table by GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.
An analysis of GlobalData’s Deals Database reveals that Goldman Sachs achieved the top position in terms of value by advising on $38.9 billion worth of deals. Meanwhile, Houlihan Lokey led in terms of volume by advising on a total of 21 deals.
Aurojyoti Bose, Lead Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “Houlihan Lokey saw improvement in the number of deals advised by it during Q1-Q3 2024 compared to Q1-Q3 2023. In fact, it was the only adviser to advise on more than 20 deals during the review period.
“Meanwhile, Goldman Sachs registered a massive jump in the value of deals advised by it during Q1-Q3 2024 compared to Q1-Q3 2023. The involvement in $35.9 billion acquisition of Kellanova by Mars played a pivotal role for Goldman Sachs to register a three-fold jump in terms of value and top the chart.”
Citi occupied the second position in terms of value, by advising on $38.2 billion worth of deals, followed by Lazard with $36.3 billion, JP Morgan with $10.9 billion and Nomura with $7.1 billion.
Meanwhile, Ernst & Young occupied the second position in terms of volume with 15 deals, followed by Bank of America with 11 deals, PwC with 11 deals and Rothschild & Co with 10 deals.
Legal Advisers
Kirkland & Ellis top M&A legal adviser in consumer sector during Q1-Q3 2024
Kirkland & Ellis was the top mergers and acquisitions (M&A) legal adviser in the consumer sector during Q1-Q3 2024 by value and volume, according to the latest legal advisers league table by GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.
An analysis of GlobalData’s Deals Database reveals that Kirkland & Ellis achieved the top position by advising on 26 deals worth $39.8 billion.
Aurojyoti Bose, Lead Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “Kirkland & Ellis registered improvement in its ranking by both value and volume but the jump was very significant in in terms of value. Kirkland & Ellis occupied the second position by volume during Q1-Q3 2023 and went ahead to lead the chart by this metric during Q1-Q3 2024, whereas its ranking by value jumped from 19th position to the top position during the same period. During Q1-Q3 2024, Kirkland & Ellis advised on three billion-dollar deals*, that included $35.9 billion mega deal. The involvement in these big-ticket deals helped Kirkland & Ellis to register a massive jump in terms of value.”
Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom occupied the second position in terms of value, by advising on $39.2 billion worth of deals, followed by Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher with $38.9 billion, Cravath Swaine & Moore with $37.9 billion and Simpson Thacher & Bartlett with $36 billion.
Meanwhile, Latham & Watkins occupied the second position in terms of volume with 12 deals, followed by Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher with 10 deals, Baker McKenzie with 10 deals and Jones Day with 10 deals.
