Since its inception in 2008, Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) has fostered the spirit of entrepreneurship globally each November with millions of participants at thousands of events in nearly 170 countries around the world. This year from November 11-18, 2018 GEW is celebrating four distinct themes: Women, Youth, Inclusion and Ecosystem Connect. The U.S. Embassy in Israel is proud to support the Global Entrepreneurship Network – Israel in its efforts to host Global Entrepreneurship Week 2018.
Elizabeth Fritschle, the U.S. Press Attaché to Israel, and three distinguished speakers from the U.S. led the opening bell ceremony at the Tel Aviv Stock exchange - Jeff Hoffman (Booking.Com founding member, serial entrepreneur, Investor, Hollywood film producer and a Grammy winning Jazz album producer), Ari Roisman (Haredi entrepreneur and founder of Glide - maker of the camera for Apple watch), Armando Vitteri (repeat entrepreneur- Neubloc, Teqniksoft). Also participating: Naoki Sakaguchi (GEW guest speaker from Japan), Reem Younis (the first Arab-Israeli woman entrepreneur, founder of Alpha Omega), Shira Simonovitch (Entrepreneurship on Tap) and Ayla Matalon, the Chairperson of GEN-Israel. The event was attended by many, notably by current members and alumni of the Unistream program. After the ceremony, the pupils participated in a round table event with the entrepreneurs and visited the TASE Innovation Center.
U.S. Ambassador to Israel David Friedman was unable to attend the event but conveyed enthusiastic remarks, saying “The U.S. Embassy in Israel strives to ensure that the benefits of Israel’s dynamic innovative economy extends to all of Israel’s citizens especially among women, youth, minority communities and the periphery. The U.S. government is committed to promoting entrepreneurship internationally as a means to stimulate local economic growth, open new markets for U.S. companies, and increase global prosperity."
Israel, commonly referred to as “The Start-up Nation”, is a leading country in entrepreneurship, but 80% of its start-ups are located in the Tel Aviv area. GEN-Israel strives to increase the number of Israeli start-ups, throughout the entire country and is focused on empowering the periphery to pursue entrepreneurship.
Ayla Matalon, Chairman of GEN-Israel said, “Strengthening the scientific basis and the confidence of the periphery residents will bring the results we’re aiming for. Dozens of volunteers from the Hi-Tech community are currently working in the social and geographical periphery towards this aim. GEW is an opportunity for personal, economic and social growth. We hope more entrepreneurs will join us."
During GEW 2018, Israeli and American entrepreneurs will strive to inspire aspiring entrepreneurs to create connections with fellow participants, collaborators, and investors. You are welcome to look at the event schedule at the link: https://www.genglobal-israel.org/
