Today, Governor Ueda of the Bank of Japan and I participated in the discussions on the second day of the G20 meeting. ...
... Finally, we discussed ways to improve financial literacy and measures to prevent fraud and financial crime. Having participated in a fireside chat at the G20 meeting held in Washington in April, I was asked to be a lead speaker this time. I stated that financial literacy is a foundation that supports individuals’ asset building and economic stability and is also important in preventing fraud. I also stated that it is important to provide opportunities for financial and economic education on an ongoing basis to people across a wide range of age groups so that people can acquire financial literacy suited to their age group and stage of life. Furthermore, I stated, among other points, that all countries and jurisdictions should steadily implement the FATF Standards so that countries and jurisdictions with limited capacity to respond to fraud do not become breeding grounds for international scam centers.
