Today, I attended the G20 and G7 meetings with Governor UEDA of the Bank of Japan. I also participated in bilateral meetings involving U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent and others. I would first like to give you an overview of these meetings.
First, at the G20 meeting, we discussed the global economy, growth, and engagement with the private sector. ... Representatives of U.S. companies were also invited to participate in discussions on private-sector-led measures to promote growth and innovation. I stated, among other points, that it is important to strike a balance between regulatory reform based on a bold financial strategy to promote growth investment and appropriate financial regulation.
Next, the G7 meeting was held on the afternoon of the same day. At the G7 meeting, we discussed the global economy, AI, and Ukraine. ... We also discussed initiatives and responses to the financial risks posed by frontier AI. I stated that, when responding to vulnerabilities detected by AI, it is important to identify priorities. I also stated that it is important to steadily implement fundamental cybersecurity measures, such as defense in depth. In addition, with regard to safety mechanisms during development and testing, referred to as safeguards or guardrails, I stated, among other points, that discussions on this matter should be deepened promptly.
