FTSE Mondo Visione Exchanges Index:

FTSE Target Emerging Market Investors Worldwide

Date 20/09/2000

FTSE, the international index company, has strengthened its drive to become the global benchmark index for emerging market investors by announcing another senior management appointment.

Peter Wall, formerly Head of Emerging Markets at International Finance Corporation (IFC), joins FTSE today as Senior Vice President, Business Development. This follows the recent appointment of Jane Staunton, previously of MSCI, who joined in June. Both new members of the senior management team are based in the US. Wall will be a key figure in FTSE’s operation to target investors worldwide and convert them to using the FTSE All-World Index as their global benchmark, and to the All Emerging component of the series for their emerging market portfolios. His initial focus will be to increase visibility of emerging and advanced emerging market sectors in the US and persuade users of competing indexes to switch to FTSE products.

Commenting on the appointment, FTSE Managing Director Mark Makepeace said: “Peter is widely recognised as a major player in the emerging markets arena. His appointment reinforces FTSE’s commitment to become the leading provider of indexes worldwide, and, in particular, positions FTSE as the alternative to MSCI in North America. We are confident that he will build on our European success by increasing market share in the US and beyond.” Before joining FTSE, Wall worked with IFC for over twenty years. His experience with developing the IFC Indexes brought him into contact with listed companies, exchanges, brokers/dealers, regulators, and investors - in both developed and developing countries. A graduate of George Washington University, he is a member of several professional bodies including the International Society of Investment Analysts.
